About Us

Billy Button Early Learning is a family-owned Childcare Centre, that is committed to nurturing the development of children by providing them an environment that will allow their full potential to flourish.

Our service is located at 366 McDonalds Road, opposite Westfield and next to the new Pipe Track Park, in the heart of South Morang. Our Centre is named after the “Billy Button”, a bright, joyful yellow daisy that is indigenous to the local community

Our foundation is built on three main core values: Discovery, Connection and Respect. Through a highly qualified team of educators, our play-based curriculum nurtures children to form a strong sense of identity, that strengthens their social and emotional skills.

A home away from home, our families are ensured a child-safe environment where their children will thrive.

early learning methods

“Children are not the people of tomorrow, but people today. They are entitled to be taken seriously. They have a right to be treated by adults with tenderness and respect, as equals. They should be allowed to grow into whoever they were meant to be – the unknown person inside each of them is the hope for the future”.

Janusz Korczak.

Our Values

At Billy Button Early Learning, we aspire to provide an environment that supports children’s social, emotional and cognitive development. Our culture is built around a love for learning, collaborative relationships, and reflective practice with a heartfelt vision to uphold our three main core values which have been the foundation of the business.

Discovery

billy button arthur c clarke quote

Every learning experience has been well planned for to provide each child opportunities to go beyond their imagination and to learn new things daily as they expand themselves using inquiry and exploration.

“The only way to discover the limits of the possible is to go beyond them into the impossible”.Arthur C. Clarke

Connection

Possums, quote by Brene Brown

Collaborative relationships are fundamental to building trust and security for children and families. By role modelling these connections, children can learn the social expectations, as they observe interactions between educators, families, and peers.

“Connection is the energy that exists between people when they feel seen, heard, and valued; when they can give and receive without judgement”. Brene Brown

Respect

Quote from Dalai Lama, with different sized birds used for demonstrating the concept of respect

Our ability to teach children the importance of respect is vital to creating an environment for cultural awareness and diversity. It is our purpose to show children how to have regard for the feelings, wishes, and rights of others, which will build their social and emotional skills for life.

Mutual respect is the foundation of genuine harmony”. Dalai Lama

Our Programs

Our curriculum at Billy Button Early Learning is derived from the National and Victorian Standards which incorporates the five learning outcomes: Identity, Community, Wellbeing, Learning and Communication. All our children’s development is documented on a digital platform called Storypark so that it is available at your fingertips!

Long Day Care

Our service is for children from the ages of 6 weeks old to 6 years old. We implement the Early Years Learning Framework with the aim to help children develop to their full potential.

Our Philosophy

Billy Button Early Learning acknowledges the traditional custodians of the land Wurundjeri peoples of the Kulin Nation on which we operate and pay respect to their elders from the past, present, and emerging.

Billy Button Early Learning is an early childhood service that has been strategically designed to facilitate an environmentally friendly centre to demonstrate the importance of both nature play and play based learning. Our aim is to provide children the opportunity to get back to basics, slow the pace and explore the world around them with a mind for inquiry.

Our values have been developed to inspire Connection with people so that they feel seen, heard, and valued. The nature-based program being implemented, will allow our children to connect with the natural environment outside the classroom. We encourage Discovery to inspire creativity, learn from our outcomes and be “outside the box” thinkers. We show Respect by appreciating the uniqueness of each child & adult that comes through our service. Our Team comes together for a shared purpose and common goal, to prioritise the children’s best interest in everything we do. We do this by ensuring a friendly, welcoming environment that creates a positive working culture that allows children to be the priority.

At Billy Button Early Learning, we believe that children are successful, competent, and capable learners who have the right to be treated as such. Children have a right to be treated by adults with tenderness and respect. They should be allowed to grow into whoever they were meant to be – the unknown person inside each of them is the hope for the future (Janusz Korczak). We are working towards a learning path for inquiry, where children are able to focus their development by using their thinking skills. In this environment, the educators will; notice what children do, listen to what they say, document their ideas and theories and respond by providing a change in interaction, resources, space, time. We embrace the value of play by providing a holistic program to meet the child’s interests and goals and by building confidence and self-esteem. These concepts will implement the Early Years Learning Framework and its five learning outcomes which include: Identity, Community, Wellbeing, Learning and Communication.

South Morang is known to have a diverse community of cultures. Billy Button Early Learning is inclusive of all children regardless of race, gender, religion, abilities, or social background including those from indigenous backgrounds, children from non-English speaking backgrounds and children who have additional needs. We endeavour to incorporate diversity throughout our programs to ensure that equity is present for all individuals within the service.

We continuously work with our families in a collaborative partnership as we recognise them in their role as the primary caregiver. Our families are affective communicators as they continue working with us by providing feedback which helps with critical reflection and growth. Reflective practice will be a vital role in our success, as we continue to be open minded in the ways we evaluate our outcomes to encompass “best practice” standards within the early childhood sector.

Our team creates a ‘home away from home’ for our families by having an ‘open door policy’ to meet the needs of the local community. Our purpose is for children to know connectiveness in their early years of development.

Different cultures, instruments and musical genres are considered in the program as we introduce all forms of music and dance to the children.

Sports program

Billy Button Early Learning has partnered with Little Sports Heroes to run the Sports program on a weekly basis. We aim to deliver a four-stage program designed to focus on increasing the level of knowledge and difficulty as the children progress. Your child’s development both mentally and physically is important to us. We believe that through active participation in a systematic approach to the basics, your children will have every opportunity to learn a variety of new skills whilst having fun. To find out more please see the Little Sports Heroes website with further information around the sports program.

Buddy Program

Here at Billy Button Early Learning, we believe that children are capable and competent learners. That through peer-to-peer interactions, they can gain insights that would otherwise be missed. Our Buddy program has been created to allow for sibling interactions as well as integration between the different age groups across the service. The purpose of this is to encourage social and emotional development in all ages through empathy and respect. This is a highly successful program that brings forth confidence and acceptance in each child’s identity as they continue to find themselves.

Garden to Kitchen Program

The Garden to Kitchen program has been developed to teach children where food comes from and how it gets to our table every day. They will learn how to connect with nature through our vegetable garden and composting system as they assist in the care towards the environment. It will encourage healthy eating habits as we introduce them to food preparation and cooking opportunities with our very own Master Chef!

Parent Program

Our Parent Program is made up of a set of sessions that will give families in the community an opportunity to connect, learn and socialize together. Attached to this is our mother’s group, father’s group, and special persons group that will meet at our very own on-site Café once a month. More information to follow.
